Tile Box with Cross Lid
Don Drumm is known for bringing the well-received, mid-century brutalist style into people’s homes and lives with everyday objects for decades. This pewter box is designed and hand-crafted by Don. You'll find Don's signature on the underside of each lid. Additionally, each of these boxes comes with a "Certificate of Authenticity" that Don personally signed.
This box is from the Christian collection Don designed. The lid for this collection has a symbol that represents “Jesus Christ Conquers.” Across the top of the Greek Cross is the Greek abbreviation for Jesus Christ and across the base is the word “Nika” that translates to “conquers.”
One specific design element you’ll find in each box is the interior base tile. In this pewter box, the interior, central, base consists of a design of four circles placed within a quadrant. For the first exterior side, the design is of an anchor and two fish. This symbol was used by early, underground Christians to identify one another. The anchor represents the cross and the fish, that of Jesus. The second side is that of an angel with wings, praying. Following this on the third side is a depiction of a kneeling angel with wings, holding an olive branch. In Western art through the ages, this is a symbol of peace. The final side of this pewter box depicts an angel with wings with a trumpet.
