Tile Box with Star of David Lid
Don Drumm is known for bringing the well-received, mid-century brutalist style into people’s homes and lives with everyday objects for decades. This pewter box is designed and hand-crafted by Don. You'll find Don's signature on the underside of each lid. Additionally, each of these boxes comes with a "Certificate of Authenticity" that Don personally signed.
This box is from the Judaica collection Don designed. The lid for this collection has a Star of David that is designed in such a way that it appears as if it were hewn from stone.
One specific design element you’ll find in each box is the interior base tile. In this pewter box, the interior, central, base consists of two geometric lines and one square. For the first exterior side of this box are the 5th and 10th characters of the Hebrew alphabet. On the second side, is a Star of David. Following this on the third side of the box is the Hebrew word “tz'dakah” which translates to “charity” in English. On the final side, is the 21st letter in the Hebrew alphabet, “shin.” It is the first letter in the name of God (Shaddai) which translates to “Almighty.” However, this letter can have different meanings.
