Tile Box with Crescent Moon Lid

You'll find Don's signature on the underside of each lid. Additionally, each of these boxes comes with a "Certificate of Authenticity" that Don personally signed.

This box is from the Moon collection Don designed. Box lids in this collection have the design of a waxing crescent moon. For the profile of this piece, its face has a nose with character, soulful gaze, and a gentle smile. One large star at its tip and many small stars can be found in the background.

One specific design element you’ll find in each box is the interior base tile. In this pewter box, the interior, central, base consists of a design that has a background of multiple lines with circles imprinted on top of them. For the first side, there is an abstract design very similar to Don’s large scale brutalist work of many decades ago. You will see angular shapes paired with smooth, rounded designs with a background with minimal texture. Following this, the next side has vertical, wavy lines punctuated by dots. Again, a minimal texture on the background so that the foreground takes precedence. On the third side, there is a large round partial circle with a light texture. To its left, there are bold, vertical, lines that curve and have perpendicular lines as their texture. Lastly, the fourth side has abstract lines with a textured background.
